Teaching and Learning

The aim of Careers Education Advice and guidance (CEIAG) at Hamilton is that all students should:

  • Be individuals who are effective and independent career planners, whenever the need or desire arises.
  • Be engaged in career planning and be able to make WIRD (well informed realistic decisions) based on awareness of self and opportunity - making positive contributions to society.
  • Be equipped to manage transitions from the different Key Stages and at Post 16 of their chosen career route.
  • These skills will be transferable into the world of work for students to achieve economic well-being.
  • At Key Stage 3 pupils study a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • At Key Stage 4 pupils prepare for application to post 16 providers.

We believe that the key to a successful career education is to go beyond the classroom and seek opportunities with local businesses, further education training providers and draw on experience from past students. The Careers programme at Hamilton aims for our young people to be exposed to a range of activities building their skills to become independent in career planning ready to make realistic well informed decisions about their future.
