Teaching and Learning

Maths is taught to all students in both Key Stages; by nature people have inquisitive minds, and we hope to develop this in our lessons by promoting logical thinking, problem solving skills and team work.

In Key Stage 3 students follow the National Curriculum. We have built upon this by developing units of work that allow students to make links between the different strands of mathematics, apply their mathematical skills to real life situations and solve multi stage problems.

In Key Stage 4 students follow a GCSE specification. We currently work with AQA on their Linear course. We also run a Statistics course as an option subject.

Although the majority of learning takes place in the classroom, we believe that this can be enhanced with activities away from the classroom
We offer students the opportunity to take part in a variety of enrichment activities and study support sessions.

This year we offered Y9 students the opportunity to visit Bletchley Park in a joint trip with the Humanities department. Students were able to see where and how code breaking took place during World War II.

In Y7 and 8 students participate in a Puzzle Challenge session as part of Maths Fun Week. This promotes team work, communication skills and problem solving. Click here to see more detail on our Maths Enrichment
